When (if!) we go, both children will have completed GCSEs and one possibly AS/A levels. What records do I need from the schools to give to future high school/college?
Have heard transcripts are needed, what exactly are these and what have others used to successfully translate UK education into high school credits?
Not really sure what to ask for and at what stage...
Thanks!

When we left the UK our daughter had just finished her A levels. We asked the college for two copies of her academic achievements, both to be in sealed envelopes (this was requested by the Canadian college). When we applied to her College here they were handed over and that was all the documentation they required. They had earned her enough credits to enter the courses she wanted to do.
As we didnt arrive until late October, she was too late to start in the September so she lazed around until the following January when she started Open Studies to get a feel of how the Canadian system worked. I think this helped her greatly. She started her degree course in September 08 and has just got her final results for the 08/09 year and has done very well.
Our daughter has had very good support here. She is dyslexic with other problems also and has had far more support here than she ever received in the UK. For her we feel this move has been very beneficial.
Good luck to you and yours.

Thanks for this useful info woodmanbg. Sounds like my daughter will be in the same position as yours. Would you mind me asking what Open Studies are? Also, have you found any problem with her not having a high school dip?

Open Studies are where you can take university-level credit courses on a part-time basis without following a specific degree or diploma program.
My daughter took Math, Management and a Computer course for her Open Studies. She didnt need to do this but we thought it would be a good introduction into the Canadian eduation system. She started a Computer Information Systems with Business degree course September 08.
No problem not having a High School Dip, as I said before though make sure you bring over an official record of College achievements and in sealed envelopes. We had no problem getting this from our daughters college in the UK.
