School/Kindergarten
Hi,
Im back again, just wondered if anyone knew if my boy would have to wait until he is 6 to go to school? He turns 5 next August and should have been starting primary one. Does he go to Kindergarten instead? and is this all day?
Any replies, greatly appreciated.

Hi
You will have to check with the school district where you will be living.

Some schools offer 5 full days to children in Kindergarten, however, the school my children go only do full days every other day. My youngest is 5 and he is in Senior Kindergarten he goes every Mon, Wed and every other Friday.

Hi. We live near Calgary. Here, kids that turn 5 from March next year will go to Kindergarten in September and are offered 5 half days a week.

Thanks everyone for the info. We are going to be moving to Calgary I think, (it isnt 100% yet!), i like the look of the Aspen Woods area. Hubby will be working downtown.

Re: School/Kindergarten
oh also forgot to say we have another boy who is 2 in November. Are there any things for him to go to. Here in Scotland he would have 2's group, Playgroup, Nursery and then school?
Thanks again

We are moving to Calgary as soon as we get our PPR's. Our youngest will be 6 on the 16th March next year so what grade would she be in if we get there and start them in school in Jan? I'm not sure if she'll be back in Kindergarden or in grade1. She's in Year 1 at the moment after doing a year in Reception!
Thanks

Re: School/Kindergarten
Certainly where we are there are groups for mums and tots and plenty of other pre-school activities and I would have thought this would be pretty much the case all over Calgary and all other towns and cities too. My son was 3 when we moved over and he attended one of several pre-school programs until he was old enough for Kindergarten.

Re: School/Kindergarten
If you live in an area covered by the Rocky View School Board which I believe covers most (if not all) of Calgary and much of the surrounding areas then I believe your daughter would be in Grade 1. If you look at www.rockyview.ab.ca and click on 'schools' and then 'registration' it explains it.
Unless you appeal to school board.
Lots of schools do multi-age classes and that might be a good way forward

Re: School/Kindergarten
If they choose to live within the city limits, then it would be the Calgary School Board. Rocky View only covers schools within the MD of Rocky View such as Cochrane, Airdrie etc. However, I believe the intake recommendations are the same for both (as they are for the Foothills School district too).

Check for school catchment areas in Aspen.
