All,
We are just trying to sort what kind of satellite/Tv streaming services we need in Toronto. Things seem to have moved on in the UK with Amazon Prime but this is not yet available in Canada.
So the question, what do people now actually buy? What we want is access to a decent set of TV channels (no idea which ones those are), the ability to record and watch back later, ideally by fast forwarding the advertisements and stream TV box sets with something like Netflix.
Could people share what are the options and what we actually need to do. Just looking at the Rogers website has told me this is much pricier in Canada and options my be limited (or i have not yet found them).
Any help would be great.
Thank you

Caveat - I'm sure others will have their own views on each of the cable providers (some will hate Rogers, some will hate Bell - it's like if you asked someone in the UK to help you choose between Sky / Virgin / BT...everyone has their favourites).
With that out the way, I've been very happy with the setup we have (four years now). We went with Bell's FIBE service and it's excellent. Have never had a drop in service, internet speeds are good, great range of TV channels (pricing is comparable across the networks, tbh). Ease of use is great - both at home and via the app (which lets you watch much of their programming on the move via your mobile devices). Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. My parents in law were with Rogers and moved over to FIBE six months ago - they love it too.
We've also got an Apple TV (boring and yes there are better alternatives out there but as we're a legacy Apple household it connects with all our other devices and so it's just an ease of use thing now). That streams Netflix / YouTube etc beautifully.
Also worth Googling UnoTelly...

i use a Raspberry Pi which was built for me by a friend, its has lots of apps on it so i dont use cable etc but you do need a decent internet speed. I got one for a friend and he tried the wifi connection but it wont work so you need internet at your TV for this to work properly. Mine is custom built as i said but they do sell it on Amazon and the app quoted (Genesis) is the app i use the most for recorded TV shows and movies, Heres a link:
Ps you just buy it, you dont pay anything after that its all free
