Bi-monthly should mean twice a month - typically on the 15th and 30th/31st. Some companies pay every two weeks. This means that two months a year you will get three pay cheques. This should be called bi-weekly but the terms are often used inter-changeably. But the actual definition of bi-monthly is every two months so the term is being used incorrectly.

Employment standards in every province require employees to be paid bi-weekly or more frequently. This is the law. Only contractors and self employed can be paid differently to this.

Haven't been paid weekly since I did Saturdays in a shop about 28 years ago.... Only job I have ever encountered to pay weekly, everywhere else has been bi-weekly or twice a month (15th and 30th). Pay frequency seems to be the only labor standard related to pay that employers follow, I am amazed at how many I've worked for that flat out refuse to pay legitimate OT. |
