The benefits package is very generous especially pension provision. The job market is very tight in most subjects (except perhaps French) as teaching is a very popular profession and entry to teaching training courses is very competitive compared to the UK. For more info on teaching in Ontario check out www.oct.ca (Ontario College of Teachers) I taught secondary for 7 years in Northumberland county before moving to the UK several years ago...definitely prefer teaching in Ontario Watch this space !

Best wishes.

Thanks for that...I wasnt too badly informed then. Biggest perk of teaching is the holiday allowance, which is astronomic by Canadian standards.

Where abouts did you used to live? I'm almost in Northumberland myself. They are crying out for technology teachers apparantly, partly I guess because most people with this background are chasing a buck in the private sector.

Cheers

Good pm: Iain - I spent my formative years in the little village with the big heart.....Stirling ... lived in Calgary (university), Kingston (uni again), Trenton (for my sins), Peterborough, Campbellford, Brighton and Trawna ( born there). I've read your praises of the Quinte area and I couldn't agree more....my English OH says don't tell everyone about it...best kept a secret. Salaries can be a problem unless you have a trade, work in the public service or wrangle a skilled job with a major manufacturer ( or become self employed like most of my family in the region). A very high quality of life...now where's my passport?
