how much did they cost? I have been given a budget from the company but want one i can work with etc and these people seem good and understanding...

We used Robinson's to move from the West Midlands to Toronto. We actually made a mistake and agreed to groupage rather than our own container when moving. So it wasn't such a good deal as we hoped.

Originally I had shipped a small amount to the UK using Parry International. They didn't lose a thing. But returning to Canada with my husband we used Robinson's. They managed to move my very heavy upright piano and crate it.

However at the other end, their partner Mackie Moving was horrible. (based in Oshawa) So many headaches. During unpacking, a box turned up with the wrong name on it. My husband noticed it and they took it away. During unpacking the Mackie people said "we just open the boxes and put them on the floor." So we ended up with a full box of someone else's possessions. Luckily it had an old passport in it so I phoned them and let them know that we had lost two boxes of clothes and linen and we had his stuff instead! We never got our two boxes back.And that is despite numerous phone calls and letters.... I had to hound them just to pick up his box and return it to Waterloo.

On top of that, we had phoned them as soon as we knew the ship was docking. Weeks later as we had kept phoning them, it was apparent not one family had their possessions delivered to them. We were the only ones they had delivered to....They also said it takes more than 3 weeks to check their warehouse for lost items

In addition with the lost items claim page you had to know EXACTLY what had gone into each box. How can you do that as they pack?

So that's our story. Maybe people should avoid groupage....and Mackie Movers

Not necessarily...............we didn't have enough stuff to fill a container, and were not going to pay for empty space. The only downside is the extra time it takes. ( it took 3 months due to the strike they had at the ports last year) It had sat in the depot at Manchester for the first 6 weeks, awaiting other consignments to fill the container..............BUT, it worked out GREAT...........because we moved from the rental condo to our own home after 3 months and the shipment was delivered to our new home 3 days AFTER we moved in. Any sooner and we could have been moving it all ourselves or paying for temp storage.
Funny how things have a way of working out !

We used them to ship a 20ft container, London (UK) to Calgary in summer 2004.

Cost approx 4000 GBP.

No problems at either end. AJ Williams did the Canada end.

We used Robinsons recently. Cost for 20ft container with insurance was 3,400 pounds & Williams International delivered our stuff this end (Vancouver Island)
Stuff took less than 3 weeks to get here from UK!! I reckon they shipped it on the SS Concorde!!
No breakages & pretty good service from both companies.

Did you speak to Pickfords today? I was also a bit 'off' with them as I found them unhelpful and miserable too!!

yeah - a huge ruckus - i still have to get them to do a quote though for the new employer but i've already told the new job about them and their attitude... the assumation they are going to get the work, the stuff they will and wotn do, the demands for when they come to pack etc etc etc just bad attitude

we have had items "lost" when we used Pickfords , only expensive items! I would not touch them with a barge pole
