I don't believe that to be true. Pride, for example, is the equivalent of GBP1.42at the LCBO ($2.50) and, mysteriously, it's a pound 42 at Tescos:
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco...ide_500ml.html It's $7ish here which feels more expensive than the UK, although I am a bit out of touch. |
Re: Returningto UK
cheese for example....I could buy good quality Canadian cheddar way cheaper in the UK cheaper than here!! how does that work?
To the best of my knowledge this is the result of protectionism for the Quebec dairy industry. Not right, IMO, but out of most Canadians' control. |

Re: Returningto UK
Hy
Returning to the UK is not so bad. At least you can go to a job agency and tell them what you want and can do. Unlike me, I am stuck in this misbegotten crap hole of a country. We came here in January 2008 looking for a better life and was sponsored by an engineering firm that promptly laid me off after 7 weeks. Then I had to wait 4 months before I could start work again because of Vegreville "processing" my paperwork. 3 months after that I was laid off again. I got a job in November 2008 with a machining company, lovely stuff - good money and a pleasant bunch of lads - so I thought. Now I am sitting here with my thumb up my ass again, laid off for a third time, because my work permit doesnt allow me to work for anybody else. It runs out in November next year, so imagine if you will, 11 months of doing squat because Service Canda and there stupid LMO ruling will not allow me to even pick up a broom. We havent got the money to go back to the UK, so I have signed on for E.I for the next 40 weeks. Let them pay my food bill. JobBank.Ca has in excess of over 44000 job postings - Kajiji has jobs posted by the hour - Workopolis is overflowing with jobs, and I am not allowed to even make a phone call to one of them, because of Service Canada. The people here are friendly and polite, and we have enjoyed our time but when you think of how the foreign workers are being treated here - you need to ask yourself, do you really want to be one of the many unemployed workers that have no hope finding a job. Ultimately, you might end up scavenging the rubbish bins and dumpsters for cans and bottles to take down the recycling depots so you can have a few dollars for a burger. Think about it before you decide. Calgary is probably the best province to move to, but even she is dead in the water at the moment. Dont believe me? Check out ********* dot com for some real insight, then see if you still want to come here. Decide wisely my friend. Steve:frown: |

Is there such a thing as good quality canadian cheddar unless you buy it in the UK lol ... dairy is cheaper in the UK because it is subsidised. I prefer suffering the poor quality dairy here though than the UK's poor quality beef which is double the price.

http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco...ide_500ml.html I sont think the difference is so noticeable in the LCBO, as for a start you dont have to leave a tip! but $7 +tip for a pint in a pub....is way more expensive than the UK. |

Yes it is.....a pint here is around $7 (+ tip dont forget), so this works out to around 4.50GBP (no pound signs on this keyboard) ive never paid that for a pint in the UK! I would usually pay around 2.20-30 so the price of a pint works out double here.
" and @ are also now reversed. |
