All,
I'm considering moving to the GTA Ontario with my OH who is originally from there but I currently work in the Oil industry in the UK. Now I'm aware there isn't an oil industry as such in Ontario but I'm not sure what there is in Ontario in terms of engineering firms. (I'm a masters in mechanical engineering). How do I find this out?
Cheers

Hi, mdh, and welcome to the BE forum.
In addition to the useful link that Novocastrian gave you, I recommend that you also check out the Canadian Company Capabilities website. It enables you to find out who the private and public sector players are in a given field and in a given region of Canada.
If your OH is from Ontario originally, there probably is a bit of a built in network there that you can tap into, and maybe you can get some free coaching on how to job hunt the Canadian way.
But also have a look at all the BE Wiki articles in the series on Job Hunting in Canada.
As it happens, the top article on BE's front page at the moment is How can I network to find jobs in Canada? That article, however, focuses more on the person who already is in Canada. The Wiki article on the topic addresses the topic from two points of view: (1) the person who already is in Canada, and (2) the person who is starting his/her networking efforts while he/she still is in the UK.
Hope that helps.
