Default Renting Property

Would it be advisable to by a condo or a house in British columbia namely (Fraser valley) to rent out.
I'm thinking of buying a property in B.C and renting it out for a few years before i move into it.

Does rent of the propert cover the mortgage ?

Is it normal for the landlord to pay the property tax ?

Which area in B.C is best to rent out property.

1) Depends how much your mortgage payments are and what you are getting in rent - usually it does !
2) Landlord pays property tax normally
3) Don't have an answer to that

From the experience of my Canadian husband who owned a condo in Ottawa, after the non-resident taxes were paid, in addition to the condo maintenance fees, and the property taxes, etc. and the tenants didn't pay rent for 3 months (can't evict tenants during the winter months in Ontario), he discovered it was better to sell the place. Just closed on it last week.

Remember to figure in the cost of hiring someone to keep an eye on the place, collect rent, and be available to handle emergencies that pop up, i.e. plumbing, heating, etc.
