Renting in Halifax surrounding areas NS
Hi
Wonder if anyone could give me some advice on renting in Halifax area, ideally within half hour of the centre..
We would be looking for a long term rent, so any companies that people can recommend would be great.. and get an idea on costs etc..
Thanks

How long is longterm? Most are a yearly contract, is that what you are looking for?
As for the homestay solution that Jasanne suggests, I am sure June will correct me if I am wrong, but that is a furnished rental and usually short term, months rather than a year. And naturally an unfurnished, long term rental costs less per month.
We are a 5 person family and we had no problem at all finding a 4 bedroom unfurnished rental house. We used Kijiji. The question is how much do you want to spend per month on rent and what about schools?
We have found it easier to rent inside Halifax because the car insurance and parking costs are frankly too expensive to justify that second car for OH, so he is using the bus at $4 a day or so. Long term we will buy and probably live outside of Halifax.
I would definately check out Kijiji and line up some viewings the week before you arrive, get a motel or short term place to stop and just get looking when you are here. I am notoriously not a fan of other *agents* offering assistance unless I have to use people like realtors etc, I certainly found it very easy to find homes to look at from kijiji.
Good luck!

Re: Renting in Halifax surrounding areas NS
We would probably be looking at 6mths renting maybe longer, not sure..!
But I would ideally like to rent in the area close to where we end up buying as I want to get the kids settled in school and stay in the area we decide on..
Otherwise we would have to move schools again.. Really don't want to do that.. my youngest is 2yrs and my eldest is 12yrs old
So we would be looking possibly at sackville, waverley, fall river or wellington areas.!! from what I have researched..
Do you have any idea on average rental prices per month in these areas..?
Thanks.

I have had a look and it has given me a really good idea of rental prices.
We are not sure at the moment when we will be coming over but nearer the summer so I can hopefully line something up in that time..
Thankyou..

That property is ours. I have been in to amend it as I forgot to add that the price does include ALL utilities. We have checked out our property against others in the area and we are on a par price wise with others that are up for rent.

You really need to get over your NZ agent experience.

Try the Halifax paper http://www.thechronicleherald.ca/cla...s/rentals.html
I agree Kijiji is usually very good too. I think £1,500 is expensive. I have a 2500 sqft, 4 bed on 10 acres, overlooking the water, vacation rental and it would not be that for a month www.oysterlodge.com

Paradisefound has slated the price of my property, whilst obviously not reading the advert properly as we do state that we are open to negotiation, and then gone on to promote his/her own in a totally different area to the OP requested. I have clicked on the link provided and viewed Oyster Lodge; yes it is in a beautiful, quiet area but the price quoted for 1 week accommodation is $1200 CAD (£600), so that works out at $4800 (£2400) a month, it does not state that they are willing to negotiate on longer stays.
I do not wish to get into a slanging match, as I am not that type of person, but I felt that I had to stand my corner and put my point of view across. If anyone feels that they disagree with my post so strongly that they wish to reply then could I ask that they do it via a PM. Thanks.
