Default Remembrance Day is on Sunday.

No, not that thread again.

I want to know if I get the day off on Monday. It seems like it's a stat holiday, but the BC holiday website only lists it for the 11th and says nothing about it carrying over to Monday?

we haven't had that thread yet this year - somebody ought to start it. I suspect you just have.

Remembrance day isn't a stat in Ontario. So my thoughts are along the lines of "bah, humbug, get back to work." But stat days usually carry forward to the Monday following, don't they? Wasn't Canada Day on a weekend this year? I don't recall whether we had the Monday off. It's important to remember these little details, after all, lest we forget.

I was toying with starting this year's thread but decided against it. It was either that or a new thread to discuss reactions to the revelation on the MS Surface thread that Souvy has a powder compact. I wonder if Souvette knows?

Yeah. That's what I would expect, but

http://www.labour.gov.bc.ca/esb/facshts/stats.htm

Explicitly mentions Canada day carrying over, but says nothing about remembrance day. I'm not sure if this means it's implicitly a day off or that it's not a day off at all

I thought you basically have every day off? Are you worried you'll have to get out of your pyjamas next Monday?

Statutory holiday on a day off

When an employee is given a day off on a statutory holiday, or it falls on a regular day off, an eligible employee is entitled to be paid an average day’s pay.

An average day’s pay is calculated by dividing “total wages” earned in the 30 calendar days before the statutory holiday by the number of days worked. Vacation days taken during this period count as days worked.

“Total wages” includes wages, commissions, statutory holiday pay and vacation pay but does not include overtime pay.

Substituting statutory holidays

An employer and a majority of employees can agree to substitute another day off for a statutory holiday. The Act and Regulation apply to the substitute day as if it were the statutory holiday.

Either a day off or a day's pay.

Your employer should have sent a memo round to everyone confirming if it was a holiday or not, lest you forget.

Our kids are off school on Monday (in BC). Friday is also a "day in lieu" for the kids so they have a LOOOOONG weekend!

I get the Monday off (college) but my husband does not (City employee). Alberta - not a done deal, I don't think.

I feel rather justified about my cynicism on all those other poppy threads over the years. At last it's deteriorated into bickering about a free day off.

Quite. It's probably what it was all about really anyway. Most things are about getting time off, surely.
