This is my first post to this board, so hope I at least get it right!
The island has some lovely areas to live. I'll admit I haven't been over as much as I'd like, but plan to do some sightseeing in the future.
We live in the Okanagan Valley - I'm actually born here, my husband is immigrating presently from Scotland. It has always been referred to as the 4 season playground and is a beautiful area of BC. The Okanagan Valley is semi-arrid and doesn't see a lot of rain in the summer months when temperatures are normally over 30 C. We see a fair amount of tourism as a result!! The winters are much milder than you would expect in the Prairie or eastern provinces - We do see snow, but not huge amounts of it (thankfully). Great powder snow at the local ski resorts!
The lower mainland area of Vancouver is approximately 3.5 hours drive west on the Coquihalla Highway from the city of Kelowna. Calgary to the east would be approximately 7 hours away (depending on speeds travelled!!). The valley runs from Osoyoos at the US border north to Enderby. The populations of the central Okanagan's main cities are: Kelowna area has approximately 100,000, with neighbouring cities, Penticton & Vernon both in the range of 50,000 each.
A bit of folklore (or is it??!!)... Okanagan Lake is home to our own version of Loch Ness.... our lake monster is named, Ogopogo.
You might want to check out the website below as it has information on each city and area of the province.
Hope this helps somewhat.
