I had them playing against each other. Firstly I sat tight and let them call me, which they did. When the 1st company approached me I said that the cheapest quote is blarrr (no lies)then they would undercut the quote. I would ask them for a revised quote by a email. When the 2nd company approached me I told them the cheapest quote and they would undercut that....Thats how I did it.
I also got free elec/mech for computer /printer, 2.5% itemised insurance and 6 weeks free storage, which i didn't need in the UK.
For the purchase of the thread ... my quote was £3800 for a jammed packed 20ft container.
8th Jan the container left for Birmingham onto a train to Southampton
12th Jan the container is at sea
22nd Jan the container arrives at Montreal
5th Jan the container is on a train to Calgary.
9th Feb the container arrives in Calgary
9th Feb - Go to customs
11th Feb - Delivery of furniture
Just under 5 weeks.

[QUOTE=dejah;7252114]True that.
But you also have to take into consideration whether or not you have access to cheap replacements. The closest Ikea to here is in Toronto (twelve+ hour drive) Not sure where else you'd get the same quality for the price.
It cost a lot more to replaced everything. My insurance was for 28K and that was not for photo's etc. My comp etc is about £1000 so I would recommend everyone to send a container.
and save you money for a house or car.

Hiya
Well, further to the quotes I have gone back to GB Liners as we did really like them to see if in a nutshell they could match our lowest quote from PSS, really nice guy, but no he can't they would make a loss.
So at least in some way that has taken one out the equation.
Think I am going to give PSS a call tomorrow and see what I can knock them down to, although their price as it stands £3382 doesn't seem too bad, but insurance is overpriced.

Hi
I have now agreed £3300 all in with PSS
I think this is a good price and also got them to reduce insurance to 2.5% which is line with the other quotes.
Fingers x they do a good job
