Hi
Just thought I would share some initial prices I have been quoted for a 20ft container from UK to Halifax, door to door service.
Some differences in price, yet to start haggling, any comments + or - to any of the co's would be gratefully received!!
Robinsons- £4290- Insurance 2.5%
one off handling charge in Halifax as will be going into storage- $700
storage $ 350 per month
GB Liners- £4335 Insurance 2.5%
One off handling $336
Storage $280 per month
Foxes-
£3570 Insurance- 2.75%
one off handling and storage- awaited
PSS-
£3382 Insurance 2.8 %
One off handling- $316
Storage $255 per month
I am awaiting a quote from Doree Bonner, which I expect to be around the same as PSS after speaking to somebody doing the exact move to us and obtaining a quote from them very recently.
So a bit of a variety in starting price of £1000 between some of them
Based upon impressions made from the visits we liked GB Liners and PSS, will see how they come out when I contact them,
Hope this helps in giving some idea of up to date figures, they all seemed to be fairly open to negotiation

Doree Bonner, eh?
Based on our experience, I'd stay away from them.
Long story short: They were brilliant until it came time to ship our stuff, then they only sent 4/5. Haven't heard a squeak from them since last week when we told them we wouldn't pay the extra £1,789 they want to ship us the remaining 260cu.ft (already paid over £5000 what with insurance and VAT and upcharges 'cause the "price of shipping has gone up") and it took a week of daily phone calls to them to get details of what they didn't ship. We offered to pay what it would have cost to send our stuff in a 40ft container, but not what they want now - which is twice that.
Seriously unprofessional company IMO (although it may only be the Canterbury branch)

Nikki - Just a word of caution, unpack can mean they unpack the box in the room you choose and leave all your stuff in a big pile in the middle of the room. When they told us this we decided to unpack ourselves and they came back for the rubbish a few days later. Just check with the company what they mean by unpack !!!! If you don't want your stuffed dumped in the middle of the floor it might be cheaper to unpack yourself. Good luck Sam

Dorree Bonner so far have been excellent. We have two more boxes to unpack so will know how good they have been in a few days. Their rep in the UK has been great also.
It very much depends on the crew they send on the day and the office you are dealing with. You could go with the company which has lots and lots of good reviews but if you get some bad packers you may not get as good an experience. Hope it all goes well for you.
We also bought our insurance from Letton Percival. Beware some of the insurances that the shipping compaines sell is not actually insurance. There is lots of info on this website about this.

We used Dorree Bonner also. They worked out almost the cheapest. Fox were the cheapest (by about £100)and we were going to use them but we were struggling to get things sorted with them. Their rep just stopped answering our phone calls. I have also heard some positive things about them from other people.

Is your quote from PSS for a 20 container or a reefer container?

Regarding Doree Bonner:
I'll readily concede that it might be the particular branch. Like I said, they were brilliant at the get-go; packers right on schedule (back end of Oct) , did a superb job, all seemed well until we had a brief email on Christmas eve saying stuff was loaded but that "a few things" hadn't fit and would be shipped via groupage service - details forthcoming asap. Nothing further from them until the bulk of the stuff came two weeks ago and we noticed quite a lot missing. (still no contact from them) Only after a week+ worth of phone calls (from us to them and at our expense) did we finally get a manifest of the missing stuff (34 items @ 260cu ft - this is a "few things"?) Still waiting to hear what they plan to do (stuff is still in England). I guess I'll be on the phone again today.
I wonder if there's a national office overseeing things ...
