Point taken re taxi-ing, though now boy-the-first drives, the more normal problem is that he nicks the car! However, he can drive boy#2, and sometimes does!

Often it's me taking public transport now!

I was really talking about living on some remote acreage as opposed to a community where they could have social contacts though. Any of the places you name would provide some sort of social framework, I'd think.

ps any chance of seeing you two strangers sometime soon? Give us a call???

Make sure you visit our beautiful city - you wont be dissappointed :thumbsup:

Except, of course, that the things that normally attract people to Calgary are simply not available in Lethbridge and the things that attract people to Lethbridge are simply not available in Calgary. People are likely to want one or the other.

AC please enlighten me, what does Leth have that Calgary (or the commuter Belt) DOESNT? The main attraction I can see in Leth is its SMALLER and slower paced

A more student friendly university according to my eldest.

Feedlots on the western outskirts so every time there's a Chinook you get that western feeling.:blink:

Much more frequent and stronger Chinooks.

Proximity to the US border, ability to drive across it in less than 10 mins (if all the lights on in one's favour. I was trying to be nice to those that live in Lethbridge. IMHO, Calgary v Lethbridge is a non contest.

Was I was trying to get across is that those that like Lethbridge are unlikely to like Calgary and vice versa, without being too disrespectful to those living in Lethbridge.

The last two I can appreciate as influences on moving there with or without Family. The first one ONLY makes a difference if you want your kids to stay at home and the courses they are looking are offered there.

Proximity to the US border ok, but at the end of the day its a 3 or 4 hour drive to anywhere half decent (Helena) even then so to me 3 hours may just as well be 6. So as far ease of travel to the States I'll stay up here.

No offence taken

Do agree that those who like Leth are unlikely to be the ones who choose Calgary - I personally wouldnt live there unless I was absolutely forced too and I was a city girl in the UK too

Hi all,

Not posted in a while, but a long time lurker. We put our plans on hold because of the economy. Now things are looking up we've decided to plan our first and only recce trip to Calgary and surrounding areas.

We're looking for any tips and advice on things we should include in our trip that people who have done this previously found useful. We are looking to go out on the 10th February next year for 2 weeks.

We are a family of 4 with 2 boys age 13 and 11, the eldest is adamant he isn't going so one aim of the recce is to convince him otherwise. Any specific activities for teenagers to include would really help(have read the thread on reluctant teens recently).

Thanks,
Martin and family

:)

"Things are looking up". Have you considered the exchange rate?

yes the exchange rate is bad right now, we are hoping it will improve but if not we will have to cut our cloth accordingly. when I said looking up I just mean't things are stabilizing.

'dogs' Ignore the doomsayers, the Xchange rate has been worse (and will be worse again), its also been better (and will no doubt be better again).

As you say you cut your cloth accordingly (and live with-in your means)
