Random Question - kids and sports

Re: Random Question - kids and sports
Hi all,
Very early days for my research into a potential move, but one thing is a slight concern (although my wife tells me I'm being silly and worrying about nothing).
We have two kids - my daughter is 2 and my son is nearly 7 - although he is very adaptable, one thing he loves is sports - however he loves British sports (particularly soccer, but also rugby and cricket)
He also does swimming and Jujitsu, but my concern is this - will he find it difficult to fit in at school? He's always tended to use sport as a bonding mechanism, and I'm worried that he'll feel a bit left out if the other kids are not into soccer, and instead play Football & Softball.
Anyone else been through this? I know soccer is popular with kids in the US, but has it made it's way north of the border?

Seasons will be different though, Soccer is a summer sport (hot!) or else played indoors in the winter.
Kids adapt in any case, and other kids will play other sports. Hockey is so damned expensive I dont actually know all that many parents that put their kids into it anymore. Soccer has the benefit that its relatively cheap (by canadian standards).

Footie is the most popular participation sport in Canada, many teams, many leagues.
Our boy played at a high level costing 2-3,000$ a year. Recreational soccer can be a fraction of that, DEpends on the level the child wishes to compete at, or is aloud to compete at, the competition for places in the higher leagues is fierce.
We stopped paying for sport 2 years ago when he was scouted by the TFC Academy

Re: Random Question - kids and sports
More Canadian kids participate in soccer than in ice hockey. Soccer overtook ice hockey in that regard years ago. This is true for both boys and girls. There is a level for everyone from recreational to various level of competitive soccer. Soccer is a year round sport in Canada played both outdoor and indoor. Indoor versions include walled soccer, non-walled soccer, and futsal (which is also without walls and usually played on an indoor court). I've been involved in coaching soccer in the US (North East region) for many years. We have encountered many Canadian travel/select teams at tournaments here.
