Can we still sing Ba Ba Black sheep?
Is it still a manhole?
Do the Cleveland Indians still play baseball?
Can we still call out Man the lifeboats?
How about those Redskins in the NFL last year
We can have the Fighting Irish but not the Fighting Sioux?

Yes its all getting a bit silly.

Re: Racism?

When you become an immigrant you realise why immigrants of other races stick together.

How many come on here moaning about "they don't get my humour" or "I can't relate to them" (meaning Canadians).

It's blatantly obvious that immigrants especially those that speak a different language and come from a completely different culture will want to surround themselves with familiarity.

So if that means a mosque sprouting up thats because there's a need for it.

I sometimes feel like an outsider because I can't sit and bullshit with my fellow Canucks about stuff that happened at school, or songs that hold certain meaning. But i'm lucky enough to at least speak the language. Thats why you have large Fillipino etc communties.

Regarding the first nations point that the op brought up - Alberta seems to be very predjudiced against the first nations - a bit like Brisitsh against the gypsies. In my opinion it's because there are loads of reserve that dish out the cash and the next generation seem to do nothing but spend it on alcohol and trucks, getting wasted and seemingly doing bugger all else. It gets peoples backs up that they don't pay taxes and blame their lot in life for what happened years ago.

I don't have a solution, just telling it like it is. I don't know either hoe many reserves there are elsewhere and whether or not they are like the ones in Alberta?

We have reserves in Ontario, most get the same bad press I hear across the country, the one I visited in Quebec certainly lived up(down) to my expectations and unfortunately made me feel that the reserve system for the north America native was destined to fail, and that the government was a willing partner in that failure..
To quote the Chinese when speaking about pandas, how much money do you invest to keep them alive before you finaly acknowledge that the project is doomed?

Of course it's the media causing the problem. In this context its an enabler to discrimination.

The media can be a great thing, but on the other hand can be very dangerous.

Since it's a business, both attributes are financially beneficial.

Only if one assumes the readers/viewers are unable to separate the wheat from the chaff;)

Reading comments and threads on this site alone confirms that assumption ;)
