Here's my top three.
3- Have you any idea about the weather up there? (never mind that I went to College in Canada for 3 years)
2- What is talking you so long? I heard that a friend of (insert name of person they know) got it in (insert absurdly small number) months.
1- I thought you were already gone. (comment repeated about every week or so, by usually the same people)

yeah everybody says "Why Canada? Do you have family out there?"
I settled for telling them all we have some distant cousins out here, and they seemed happier with that. (though we're probably less likely to see the cousins now we live in Canada ourselves!!)
What I liked best was a shortly before we left, and we'd say to people "we're off to Canada next week(/month/whenever)", and they'd say "oh that's nice, how long for?" ........ and we'd say ......
...FOR EVER!!!!! and watch the jaws hit the floor!

This is not really on topic, but something reminded me of what happened l-o-n-g ago now!!
We had been in Canada for about five years before we could afford to go home for a holiday. While we were there, we went into our "local" which actually wasn't very local even when we lived there. The owner looked at my husband and said "Hi Rhys - haven't seen you around for a while!"
We died laughing as we told him we had been living in Canada for five years!!!

the ones I hate have to be:
1) Why not Australia, or NewZealand? The weather's nicer.
2) You'd need to go soon before the kids start secondary school (like I ever had any control over the speed of things!)
3) What if you don't like it? You might not be able to get back into the same job/house/etc etc if you decide to come back.
There are so many standard conversations I'm sure we all have with people along these lines. Just negativity all the way.
What p****s me off is that people often think they are pointing out things to you that you couldn't possibly have thought of yourselves!
That's why it's so refreshing and encouraging when you meet the odd person who says "great, good for you!"
