Purchasing a multi region dvd player in Canada
#1
Can someone please give me some web links of stores / websites where I can see how cheap (I'm an optimist) region free dvd players & also widescreen TV's are?
I have Googled, but the descriptions of the players are not clear if they will play Region 2 DVD's.
Thanks

No point in trying FS or BB as they will deny the existence of such a thing. Do a search on here as this has been discussed endlessly. Cheapo walmart $29 players work & if you google the subject you'll find that most DVD's can be 'hacked' for multiregion use.

Expats correct, they say they have never heard of such a thing
. You can buy the cheapie player in Walmart that don't say they are region free but are. Think they are made by Diamond.
I went into Walmart and wrote down the model of the upconverting dvd players on their shelves (I have an HDTV so wanted best quality playback) then went onto this website for codes. I found a code for the DVD player I wanted so bought it - around $90 complete with HDMI cables. The code worked and I simply changed the region code from 1 to 0 for worldwide. Took all of 2 minutes. I was one happy bunny as I had shipped over 120 DVDs from UK.
Before I had bought that model I had also purchased another dvd player from another store which I could not find the hack code for. Out of desperation I tried the same hack code as my other player and strangely enough it worked on that model too.
One thing to look out for when buying a player is check out the remote control. Some of them have tiny buttons. Walmart DVD player remote was okay.

Find a cheap player you like the look of and then check on this site
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
That will tell you if the player is hackable or not, or whether it is multi-region out of the box. Just keep checking until you find one.
