Boys are much cheaper to run.

At my stepson's graduation, the girls were all decked-out in obviously expensive gowns.

The Boy was wearing my DJ. I think all we had to buy was a pair of shoes.

Dressing for graduations has not been a major cost. The same pair of Docs did for high school and undergrad. I didn't pay for the green slippers worn for law school graduation but they had the look of having gone through several charity shops en route to the feet. Fees to get to the graduations are another matter.
