I suggest that you log onto your CRA account without clicking on a link in an email and immediately change your password and security questions.

I smell a scam. I only deal with CRA online and I have never received an email that purported to come from them that wasn't a scam.

YES - SCAM
I strongly suggest you contact the CRA through their official website only.. Your information can now be used... especially as you have given them your log in, your security question and answer...and get a flag put on your credit so you get notified.

Other communications urge taxpayers to visit a fake CRA website where the taxpayer is then asked to verify their identity by entering personal information. These are scams and taxpayers should never respond to these fraudulent communications or click on any of the links provided.
If you think your CRA user ID or the password you use in personal dealings with the CRA has been compromised, contact us.

Equifax and TransUnion Canada are two services that gather credit information on almost all individuals. At your request, these services can place an indicator or flag on your credit file to alert you of any changes.

I have had trouble with their website such as you describe, sometimes clearing cookies and cache will correct it, other times you just have to wait until their website decides to work again.

Service Canada does the same thing too. It's just like the emails that come from banks saying statement is ready to view.

Re: Problems Logging into CRA account
I had the same problem and error reported. CRA told me that until I file a tax return I won't be able to log in with my SIN. Accountant is filing my first canadian tax return this week, so I will try again next week.
