I think it's 4.25 or 4.29 in Zehrs here, something like that. Costco is cheaper, it's under 4 dollars there, but the US is cheapest - sometimes on special for 2.77 USD. Of course you have to wonder if you want your growth hormones with your coffee... but one chain has started selling hormone-free so I try to get it there

There is some major agricultural protectionism in QC, which is why Becel is white.
I didn't realise just how much more we were paying, though. I think I'll do some comparison shopping, to see if it's worth going down to Ottawa to shop for groceries.

Where my daughter is petrol sells for $5.09 a (US) gallon. Hearing that shocked me and sent me into a frenzy of calculation trying to determine how much it is here. ****ing metric pumps!

Err, one of them big bags for the Ontario milk, and one of them nice plastic jugs for the US stuff
Petrol is back to 3.89US a gallon most places over the border here. The place at the bridge converts their price (don't know it) as 105c Canadian a litre.

After a lot of searching I have found a decent cheddar (and it's NOT orange
) at Canadian Superstore.
It is their own "No name" brand "Extra Old Cheddar" which costs about $11.50 FOR 907g(2lb).
The only problem is that cheese consumption in our house has now gone back up to pre-Canada levels

Definately a price difference East to West. Milk is upwards of $3.70 here I believe. Cheese seems really expensive so we buy the extruded Black Diamond / Kraft Cheddar when its on sale for normal eating and I occasionally save up enough to buy a small chunk of Stilton (at upwards of $5) for a treat.
I definately find general groceries more expensive here than back in UK. Exceptions are beef and pork which are fantastically cheap. (Fr'example I bought a good size striploin of around 8oz for $3.34 at the weekend.) Chicken is expensive and Lamb is virtually unobtainable fresh. NZ leg of lamb for a roast upwards of $25 so not something we eat often at all!

Yes. That's how it's sold here. A few weeks ago it was in the buck 40s. It's now in the 20's. I think demand has dropped off somewhat.
I saw an article in the paper last week. The bus company has been able to weather the rising fuel costs because so many more people are using the bus.

I have to be honest. We like good food and don't scrimp on it.
