The price of cheese
I just noticed a huge difference in the price of two bits of cheese in my fridge.
A small lump of parmesan from IGA works out at $60/kg. A much bigger lump of the same stuff from Costco works out at $25/kg. By my calculations, two lumps of cheese would cover the cost of my annual Costco membership. |

Re: The price of cheese
Lunch today consisted of a toasted bagel, into which I put a slice of cheese. £1.08 for 10 pre-sliced bits of cheddar. 10 slices = 10 lunches worth. Therefore, cheese for one weeks worth of lunch cost £0.54.
Cheese-tastic. Clearly I'll have to think of a different lunch idea for Canada. |

Are you comparing like with like? Is the quality the same? Does Cosco's big lump go hard quicker and thus is thrown in the bin? Is IGA's organic?
Lots to consider :) |
Re: The price of cheese
Also , why is Canadian cheddar so much cheaper in the UK?
Why do Canadian insist that cheese is orange? Thank god for the St Lawrence market , I'd die of cheese deficiency otherwise! |

Food shopping is more expensive here than in the UK. |

A recent grocery bill says $3.65 for two litres, so about £1.80. I don't think there is tax added to food but I may be wrong.
Food shopping is more expensive here than in the UK. 2 litres homogenized in Calgary $2.35 2 litres 2% $2.19 Oh and no tax is added to food, there are some exceptions. |
Re: The price of cheese
Yep must admit that the price of chicken surprised me too - thank the lord for The Hutterites who come round periodically to the town selling their wares.
(Or my friends who's next batch of big fat juicy runners (well not so much runners more floppers) are ready for the axe!) |

Re: The price of cheese
I think it's 4.25 or 4.29 in Zehrs here, something like that. Costco is cheaper, it's under 4 dollars there, but the US is cheapest - sometimes on special for 2.77 USD. Of course you have to wonder if you want your growth hormones with your coffee... but one chain has started selling hormone-free so I try to get it there ;)
