I must admit this wasn't the level of service I was expecting which was more like two months (if I was lucky). Is this some kind of record? |

When you re new your PR card do you have to send your old card in with your appiclation, If so are you still able to cross the border without your PR card whilst your application is going through.

This is taken from this link Permanent residents returning to Canada by airplane, boat, train or bus must show a valid PR Card or travel document before boarding. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...ons/travel.asp |

As long as you have a valid passport and not travelling by a commercial carrier no PR card is required. Just pay for the I94 waiver if going by car.

Ive never come across a truck driver carrying a fare paying passenger. Just make sure he has a copy of the COPR form or the original with him just in case he is questioned about his status and he can explain the card is being renewed. |

To become Canadian citizens, adults must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before applying. Children under the age of 18 do not need to meet this requirement |
Re: PR Card Renewal.
Hi there! Is it normally a problem renewing when you still live in the UK?

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...card/index.asp Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) does not mail permanent resident cards to addresses outside Canada. If you want to return to Canada and you do not have a valid permanent resident card, you will need to get a permanent resident travel document. Send an Application for a Travel Document to a Canadian visa office abroad. Once you return to Canada, apply for a permanent resident card if you intend to travel outside Canada again. Even if you have a friend in Canada and use their address CIC MAY want the card picked up in person so that will be a problem. Starting April 30, 2012, CIC will be running a one-year pilot project to send permanent resident cards to most applicants directly by mail. However, some permanent residents will still be required to pick up their PR card at the local CIC office as part of a quality assurance exercise. When the local office gets your card, staff will contact you to schedule an appointment to pick it up. If you cannot go to your appointment to pick up your card, contact the Call Centre and explain your situation. Do this at least a day before your appointment. If you do not pick up the card at the local office within 180 days, the card will be destroyed and you will have to re-apply. |

How the hell does that work then? I am not kidding we had to jump through hoops to get it. The person we had to see was an official, dressed in very official clothing and like i say there were very limited times to go in and no appointments so turn up and wait. I asked about any other options for collection as my son had trouble getting time off work and she said "no other option, he MUST attend". As i say we also had to go in with multiple forms of ID before she would release the bloody things.
Some offices allow for appointments others dont. My guess is they will introduce a policy where cards that need to be picked up in person will be mailed to a Service Canada location for pick up. There again that would make sense. Oh wait didnt 1700 Service Canada workers just get layoff notices:huh: |
