Postal address in BC?
#1
Hi
Bit foxed here - so all help gratefully received.
What do new immigrants to BC do about a postal address?
We'll have some mail which we will want to be forwarded to us, but until we have a permanent address, what are the options? What have other people done?
Thanks!

We've had most stuff forwarded to a friends place in Vancouver.
If you don't have that luxury you could set up a PO Box (although banks and the like won't usually send stuff to PO addresses). If it is finance related it might be worth asking your branch if you can have stuff forwarded to you there c/o your account manager.

You could initially use your hotel as an address and then ask them to hold mail till you have a permanent address.
I guess it depends where you plan living initially. I used my work address as I had a job lined up when I came.

You could ask your hotel too - I sweet-talked the Delta Chelsea business centre and they kept mail for us, incl. driving licenses, until we returned 3mths later

We are using Calgary Mailbox Rental, who keep it and forward on to any address (at a reasonable price). I guess there is something similar in Vancouver. A quick Google search found this http://www.accutype.net/pages/mailbox-rental
Trouble with Canada Post ones is you can't do it over the net from the UK, you have to do it in person and so is no good until you arrive. Other companies are more flexible - although security is presumarbly always an issue.

Thanks, guys for all your suggestions.
We're struggling to know what to give as our forwarding address when we move, and until we get a permanent - or semi permanent - abode.
Will look into all the leads you gave me.
Thanks again and have a great weekend.
