Travelled with zoom on Wednesday to Vancouver, which was a great flight. We actually got to see our dog been loaded on the plane which was really reassuring.
We landed ten minutes ahead of schedule and got through passport control very quickly but then got caught up in the queue at immigration. Immigration was not too bad, it just took a little longer because I forgot to take a copy of my wife’s job offer letter and a copy of her WP. The confusion started after we collected our bags as no one had explained the collection of animals to us.
Basically because our dog had gone cargo we had to collect her from swisport cargo, which is out of the airport. We did manage to get our paperwork all stamped up and paid the customs fee of $31.80. Whilst paying our fees one of the customs operatives said he had seen our dog and she was ok “not the worst smell I have hadâ€, alarm bells at this point. This was at one in the afternoon, so we then made our way over to cargo where we had to wait another hour as they had not received the animals yet. At this time Belle our chocolate lab had been crated for sixteen ours plus. We then went to the warehouse to collect her and she went mad tail wagging at full speed I thought she was going to take off. She was clean with no mess, the only wetness was from her water bowl. The day before our departure our pet handling agent was getting concerned that I had not completed a DEFRA form. I had always explained that we had a pet ppt and as far I was aware we didn’t need one. He continued to state that he always uses them, any to cut it short I was right and he was wrong.
Now reunited with wife and living in our new house in lovely Maple Ridge.
Thanks to all those who have given their support and words of advise to help get us out to Canada.
