As part of the PR process I need police certificates. For me it's not too bad because all I'll do is pop down to the local police stattion and enquire about it...
For my wife it's a bit more difficult. We need to obtain one from Pakistan too...I dont know if any of you are aware but it's a real headache to get anything from Pakistan...
My question is when do i order the certificate from Pakistan. How far into the PR application will I be asked to provide police certificates?
Thanks in advance

I think you need them towards the end of the process.

If it's hard in the UK too, then
can anyone please explain the process in obtaining one in the UK too?

Simple, but it takes a long time. I think that the Met requires notarised copies whilst Avon and Somerset didn't. Check out the website of your local constabulary.

Then you send it off, wait a while for it to arrive at your local police and for them to put it into the National computer, and then you wait 40 days before the certificates arrive at your address.

As regards history there are a few different types of Police Certificate, the Police will advise which one is appropriate for Emigration purposes. I think it will show anything on Police record for that individual back to the year dot.

It simply says "In reply to your request for information that might be held about you by the Thames Valley Police on computers in the following categories"
Person Record: Prosecution/Conviction
Then underneath it says there is no information held (phew!!!!!)
We had these done twice, once with our initial application and again after the medicals as there was a 2 year gap but i think that has changed now under the new system.
