Pluses and Minuses....

Why not a beautiful little city like Stratford instead of all these little weird places?

You're so right - some of these places are sooooo weird! Inbreeding?
.The main downside of Stratford, beautiful city though it is, is property prices....for the part of Ontario, that is.
We lived in Port Perry back in the 80's and wanted a place with a similar feel; after visiting the area for a few weeks prior to moving out here, we looked at the whole area from Wingham to Goderich to Exeter, Listowel and all places in between. We wanted a small place with our own list of criteria and Seaforth seemed to fit the bill. Many questions on many issues were asked of many people in the area.....alas, we were misled (if not outright lied to!), and have found that this particular town is not what we'd hoped it would be. I deal with it the best way I can, and try to keep busy and optimistic while we consider our options, as we know we'll not stay here....hence my question regarding pluses and minuses. It is true, though, that no amount of research can prepare you - you have to live it to know it.

If you like small town Ontario so much, why don't you check out places that are a little larger but still inexpensive. Places like Hanover - we have a cottage there - Goderich, Leamington, Fergus, Owen Sound or Port Dover.... not as cheap as you are now, but perhaps a better compromise.
Thank you for your suggestions...have looked at some on your list already: Goderich is probably about as far north as we'd go. Even considering leaving this province......east rather than west.

If you moved there, we'd come and be your neighbours

So, what are you looking for (likes and don't likes) in a town anyway? I could narrow down some towns if I knew.

I was having a flashback!
hotwasabipeas mentioned that Toque Hair was a minus to Canadian living. Having lived through the 80's (and experienced severely bad toque hair) it really made me laugh. I also was a victim of very bad "Mall" hair as we called it - I am just hoping the fashion has long gone, never to be revived

Luckily, back in the day, I came from a poor family and couldn't afford all the hairspray for my own coiffe.

Here... reminisce.
