Pet passport is more for going back to the UK than out of it.
I got all our dogs micro chipped and they had 1 rabies injection (cos that was all we was told they needed) and travelled over no problems

How much did the cost of flying them over cost you, if you dont mind me asking?

I used an agency (airpets) as we wanted our 3 dogs to fly over a few days after us plus they did all the paperwork and vet checks. Cost us approx £3000 for the agency and approx £150 for the rabies jab (vets will vary on cost) I chipped them years ago as I do believe in it

Just starting this process and have been quoted approx. £200 by local vets for rabies jabs, blood tests and the pet passport.
Hope that helps,

I do have a pet passport (well my dog has) but its almost 6 years old so i cant remember how much it cost to get. I just went out with my dog for £720 to Toronto using Par Air as he travelled before me and $920 return but i didnt use a shipper just done it myself through BA to return.
I also paid £28.00 for the fit to fly certificate from the vet that you need between 24 - 48 hours before you fly.
Any more questions feel free to ask

We went down the pet passport route just in case anything went wrong here and had to bring the dogs back with us. You dont need to as mentioned as long as they have the microchip and rabies and Positive bloods they can coma back into UK by using another form (cant remember what it is off hand) but we thought we need all the above doing anyway so might as well just have the passports to save any future hassle.
We flew the dogs with us as excess baggage with Air Canada GBP109 each dog and $36 inspection fee on arrival. There are periods they wont fly them so check with them for these periods. We flew at 1530 and the dogs stayed with us outside at Heathrow right up until 1415 when we took them down to the baggage department out the back.
Each dog had to be 32kg or less including the crate to be allowed to fly this way otherwise they would have to go cargo.
They were excellent and the dogs were waiting by the baggage belt on arrival which was quite funny as everyone was making a fuss over them.

It is a good idea to get one but we were never asked for it.

Hi
You only need a pet passport if you plan to go back to the UK.
Bringing a pet to Canada is actually not too complex - to have my cat collected from home, transported to the cattery, paperwork completed, vet checked, boarded, cleared, transported to the airport & flown over etc I paid 700GBP, including his carrier with much be airline approved. We used these guys (below) who were brilliant but oly because I had already left the country. All I had to do was collect him, clear him through customs (with a $35 fee) and pay the release fee for Air Canada ($45 this end). My cat had been fussed over big time by the guys at Air Canada cargo in MTL (through the cage of course), and he had a forklift truck all to himself.....he was a very happy cat!
Air Canada, BA or Transat will all fly your pet - I would have done it myself had I not already moved over here, but I needed someone to sort it out in the UK. Air Canada cargo is best, quoted me £220, and will need vacc cert (must show rabies vaccine!), airway bill to be completed and the vet clearance at the UK airport (can be free, but costs no more than about £50) which you may not need if your own vet has given a certificat of health less than 5 days before flying.
It's even cheaper I think though if you are on the same flight.
Good luck - to you and your doggy!
