Default Our First Visit- Mississauga

Hello .....
Very excited .. my BF got his LMO last week .. so we are going to come over and have a reccy at the end of July .... his job will be based in Mississauga so we thought to stay in this area for a few days and then perhaps go somewhere else - any ideas on hotels ..log cabins etc. - all help greatly appreciated .....

Mississauga isn't a 'log cabin' kind of a place, if that is what you are expecting - you are in for a huge disappointment. There are loads of hotels at all price points so just do an on line search. If you are thinking of a log cabin for a bit of a holiday after you leave Mississauga then the Muskoka and Kawartha areas are both really great: lakes, trees etc. Again there are plenty of cottages to rent at varying price points, we always look on line and have always been lucky with our finds.

Toronto airport is located in Mississauga so is a cheap alternative to hotels Lots of hotels/motels in that area dependent on budget of course and what you want i.e pool hot tub breakfast included.
Not too many log cabins I believe as it is a bit of a concrete jungle in that area.

Depends on your budget and tolerance to commuting. Caledon, Halton Hills (eg rural parts of Georgetown), are both options. Carlisle also an option, depending where in Mississauga you are working.

What sort of budget and what kind of thing are you looking for i.e. do you need schools, how many bedrooms, access to what kind of amenities, parking, etc, etc?

That'll help those in the area give you better advice. I think pretty much all of the GTA is a concrete jungle, but then I'm not a fan, so perhaps not exactly unbiased!

Congrats on the LMO btw, that's great.

Is Mississauga big If you can figure out where it starts and ends and doesnt include Toronto then yeah its nothing like a quaint English village or hamlet

Mississauga is a city with a published population (according to Mississauga.ca) of 713,443 which is approximately the same population as Leeds in the UK (again according to quick google search). So it is a big place, yes.

As far as property prices are concerned, there is a huge variation depending on area. Generally speaking the more rural, the cheaper it is but the longer your commute. The GTA in general is not a cheap place to live.

Two bedrooms/buy suggests a condominium apartment to me. Not too many houses just have two bedrooms. If you buy a condo then parking is included. Price wise you're looking probably $250k-up to sky's the limit. Within 30 minutes drive you have Oakville to the west and Etobicoke to the east. There are some very nice buildings in both areas and while I haven't been to Mississauga for some time I know it does have some good condo buildings itself.
