I wonder how many Brits move abroad each year after watching the hundreds of 'change your life and leave evil, grey, hoodie filled Britain' shows? A lot I suspect are going to thier nominated country sight unseen (outside of glossy literature) too.

Canadians outside of Quebec are generally indifferent to the Royal Family and its relationship with Canada. Whereas Quebecois can be downright hostile to the relationship.

On the slipside.... I'm Canadian and while touring through England I was asked:
Oh you're from Canada... then you must know so & so in Toronto (I live approx. 4.5 hours flight time from Toronto)
Canada.... It must be a real problem with the wild animals like Moose & bear in your garden all the time!
Oh.... You get so much snow & bitter cold temperatures there & the ice storms are horrible. It's soooo humid in the summer there too. (we live in an area that doesn't see huge amounts of snow in the winter & I personally have never seen an ice storm. Being a semi-arrid location, we generally don't experience the high humidity factor)
In my opinion, no matter where you go, you're going to have someone that tries to make conversation with the little knowledge that they know about your country. I took it as an opportunity to converse & enlighten them.

<hears my accents>
"So, what part of America are you from?"
me: I'm from Canada.
Expression changes from "damn I hate Americans" to "OMG!!, what is Canada? Where is it!? She sounds septic but she aint?!"
... dears in the headlights... although that's only when I was honest. I usually put on a southern drawl and pretended I was straight out of Gone with the Wind.

Various questions re: their recent improprieties/dramas and the 'cost' to the nation were asked. I did point out that it works out at about 20p per citizen, but left out the fact I'm actually quite proud we still have Liz and her gang around and changed the subject on the rare occasions it came up afterwards.

Bear in mind what became of the monarchy in France and how that institution was literally severed. Methinks their ancestors felt the same way.
