Go to your local OHIP office with proof of residency in Ontario, and other ID, and fill in the forms. Your card will arrive just before your coverage starts, which is 3mths after becoming resident in Ontario.

I forgot to say, a few of us have found OHIP to be awkward about proof of residence in Ontario. A tip to avoid this is to get your Ontario drivers license first. You don't need proof of residence for the license, yet OHIP accept it blindly as proof of residence

I know this sounds silly, but what does 'residence' mean? Would it mean, for instance, that I could apply for an OHIP card while I'm waiting for my PR application to go through London? Or should I hold off any plans for getting the OHIP card/drivers' license until the PR's done and dusted? I'll be living in GTA throughout.

You'd be a visitor, and visitors aren't allowed coverage. You wouldn't have anything from List 1 of the documents required for OHIP.

But if you've applied for PR then you *are* eligible for OHIP cover from when CIC say your medical results are satisfactory. But by the time you could get CIC to give you something suitable for OHIP's purposes, you'd probably be landed. It might help with the 3mth wait a little bit though. Ask Daft Batty for more information about that, she did it recently, and I don't think it was easy.

Which conveniently coincides with the length of time it takes you to start looking the right way when crossing the street. It's a conspiracy I tellyou.

So not true. 7 months in and I still look the wrong way and am surprised to see traffic on the wrong side.

Since I've lived in the States, I'll at least have that down pat. I'm still getting used to turning right on a red, though.
