Default Off to Expo on Sunday

Hi all, I am a newbie. Me and OH are going to Expo on Sunday but have read that it is not very good. We have just started looking at a move to Vancouver. My OH is a Civil Engineer specialising in Highway and drainage design and has over 20 years of experience. We have been looking at job websites but don't know what the reality of actually being offered a job whilst in the UK. OH is happy to go out beforehand if said job does materialise. My main concern is where to live in Vancouver that has a decent school for my 7 year old and is commutable. I also see that childcare is much trickier than in the UK, I presently work in local government and have flexible working patterns to allow for holidays etc. Does this exist in Canada? Sorry to ask so many questions, on one hand very excited about going then on the other have so many doubts.

Can't answer your Q's, but do take your other half to the expo... if only to convice her to move! Opportunities seem to focus on Alberta, so uless you're dead set on BC, you might be disappointed.

Doubts about the future? Don't we all!

Vancouver and suburbs is a big area. Each area has good and not so good schools. You might want to be a bit more specific about where you are looking, or wait an find a school once you have work lined up.

There is childcare in Canada, but you have to pay for it. Many local govts. have part time positions, not heard about flexible hours to fit around an employees schedule though.

Smile Re: Off to Expo on Sunday

Hi all, survived Expo on Sunday, glad we didn't take our daughter though as she would have been bored to tears Although we were originally looking at Vancouver we have been converted to Alberta after seeing the swish presentation and looking at general house prices and job availability. Spoke to a couple of agencies which specialised in Engineers so in that respect Expo worked for us. Now we are zapping off resumes to all and sundry. Got loads of practical advice so all in all we thought it was worth the long hike from the suburbs What did others think of the day?
