Hi and congrats on your success with Canada,
Just a query, we are in the very first stages of moving to Canada, (we are also thinking of Alberta) just wondering how long the process took you from making the decision to recieving your visas.
Many thanks and good luck,
Karl Goodman

And it's not just any job either. It's a job that no qualified Canadian wants. That's why it's so important to be aware of the regions that have labour shortages and which occupations are in demand. I see you're thinking of Alberta, and that's a good thing from the point of view that it's a province with labour shortages.
From the time that you get a job offer, it might take ten months or so to get a temporary work permit (perhaps eight months for the Labour Market Opinion and two months for the work permit itself).
But it depends on your occupation, because there are some occupations that are eligible for Expedited Labour Market Opinions.
Once you've received clearance to work in Canada, you may want to sell your UK house, and that may introduce a further element of delay.
All in all, I would say it's quite common for it to take a year from the time that the person has a job offer to the time that he/she moves to Canada.
The length of time that job hunting takes varies a lot. Many people go on recce trips to what they think will be their Canadian destination. They check out the place, and they do some networking while they're there. This job hunting phase, combined with a recce trip, might take a year.
So, all in all, from beginning to end, the whole thing may take two years. But it varies a lot from person to person. There are some people who are in occupations that are in red hot demand and who have few encumberances back in the UK who get over to Canada in a couple of months. For other people it takes five years.
Hope that helps.
