Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone knows if the NVQ qualification is recognized in Ontario? I completed an apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance and got an NVQ out of it but now I libel in Canada I am finding it difficult to find a job where i can use my quals. Second question, I have almost been a resident for a year now and I need to exchange my driving license, do I need to take a test or is it straight forward? Thanks for your time

I'm not in Canada but from what I have been informed on here, NVQs are not recognised across the country. Also WES or whatever it's called that will translate qualifications into Canadian terms won't touch them as I've emailed them about it.

The jobs you have been applying for have they informed you that they don't recognise your certificates or are they just not getting back to you?

It i snot a Canadian qualification, so it would not be recognised, I doubt employers even know what it is. Few qualifications from around the world are recognised from one country to the other, even in the professions many have to pass competency exams or equability.

Go to Ontario Trades, challenge the apprenticeship exam and get a Canadian qualification. To do this you have to prove the requisite number of hours experience in the trade.

I am surprised it has taken you a year after arriving in Canada to look into these things and find this out.

Not really. If he'd been using it to drive that might put him in a bit of a situation.

The bods in the DriveTest centre will probably convert it over without any questions provided he's held it long enough in total duration and passes the eye test.
