Hi
My wife is taking her nurse exam in Halifax this June. We have the prep guide already, is there any other books or websites that may help her to revise.
Also anyone who has been through this have you any advise.
Thanks for any help.

My wife used the prep guide, and then a few weeks prior took the mock exam online (details are in the prep guide and CRNE website). It costs a bit of moneey, and so only worth doing when you think you are ready for it, but she found it very useful (and passed the real exam at the first sitting in Oct last year!)

I used the prep guide aswell, and the mock exam- as Nick says, only take the mock exam near your actual exam. You only have access to the exam once, so make sure you have plenty of time, I also copied some of the questions down for future revision.
I passed first time - just got my results on Thursday so I had a good weekend

I undertook the exam in Toronto. I found the prep guide excellent. Just go over and over the questions and why that specific answer is right. The cd rom exam test is very helpful. I found this on the web hope it may be of help.

Canadian Registered Nurse Examination
CRNE Prep Tools
CNA, developer and owner of the CRNE, offers two official tools to assist candidates studying for the exam. These two tools, the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam Prep Guide and the LeaRNâ„¢ CRNE Readiness Test, complement each other to help candidates prepare for the CRNE.
Canadian Registered Nurse Exam (CRNE) Prep Guide
The CRNE Prep Guide is a study guide in print format with an accompanying CD-ROM. Available in either English or French, the prep guide offers close to 300 practice questions, including over 75 questions in the new short answer format. The CD-ROM allows you to select questions by format or by content category.
The guide also provides the following tools:
* answers and explanations to help you learn
* a performance profile to identify your strengths and weaknesses
* valuable test-taking strategies and study tips
Purchase the CRNE Prep Guide from your school bookstore or from CNA at http://bookstore.cna-aiic.ca or by calling 1-800-385-5881. CNA's prep guide price is $74.95 plus taxes and shipping and handling.
LeaRN CRNE Readiness Test
Available in either English or French, the LeaRN CRNE Readiness Test is an online simulated CRNE in a shortened format. The test offers these benefits:
* 100 multiple-choice and short answer questions
* questions from former CRNEs that are completely different from those in the prep guide
* a match with the CRNE in terms of level of difficulty and questions by content type
* an opportunity to view questions you answered incorrectly along with the correct responses
The test also gives you instant overall results as well as four sub-scores based on the CRNE competency categories to help focus future study for the CRNE.
Anyone who is planning to take the CRNE may want to consider taking this test. For internationally educated nurses, the test may be particularly helpful as it is accessible from all over the world and can be taken before coming to Canada.
Purchase the LeaRN CRNE Readiness Test online, with a credit card, for $42.38.

Sorry,
I should have said I took the exam in Toronto to allow me to work in Ontario. You have to sit the exam in the province you want to work in.
You also have to have a WP. or PR. to allow you to work. WP are usually a year commitment working full time for a specific hospital.
Best Wishes

thanks for that!
a year would be o.k for me and my family as despite seeing adverts to come over i feel that the pay is not fab. a mat of mine is in van 0n 66000 CAD and tell me that is good.
i just like canada but all the seriousness i had about it has gone really.
i did get my AOR and had a 36 month wait which would take me to aug 2008. the desperation has gone a bit now!

The pay you mentioned is the top of the scale. You have to provide proof of years of service to get the top scale for an RN.
We have been in Ontario now for over three years and are so glad we made the move. Our kids were younger . If we had to do it with older kids it would be much harder but still worth it.
The cost of living and gas prices are much cheaper, all in We have a much better quality of life here and there is so much more for the kids.
We even drove down to Florida for March Break.

really pleased it has worked out for you and i suspect my family (boys 8 and 5) would have a great lifestyle and it would work out well.
i have been qualified as a RGN and RMN since 1992, got my masters and qualified as a social worker and now on a partime PGCE teacher training course for post-16 sector. my prospects are perhaps just as good here, who knows!
naively, i did not think that 66,000CAD was top notch money, although it is not bad.
i think that the kids would have a fab life. not sure if it would benefit me though!

can i ask how you proved your years of service as I had to provide mine from 1981. The managers I worked for in the early years are long since gone. Do you just submit the years/hours yourself or do you have to have wriiten proof?

Hi Jo,
What part of Canada are you moving to?
If you have worked at the same hospital then check with Human Resources as they should still have your file, Your current Manager should have access to as well.
You need a formal letter on Hospital addressed paper stating the years of service to include full and part time years and signed by the Manager
This is important to provide to get your pay scale entitlement.
Also Some of the hospitals here are offering a four week vacation as a incentive to recruit staff but if you have over 25 years service then you are entitled to five weeks vacation. So try and get your years of service
Hope this helps

I have a job at the Stollery in Edmonton. i should have started on the $th June but as yet my WP application is still in London. My med is booked for the 10th May so it may even be July before I get my WP if all goes well.
I have only worked in 2 places, but the former was from 81-91 and the department has since relocated to another hospital.
I will try the HR at the old place but don't hold much hope. Can the NMC not verify what you have worked?
thanks Jo
