Hi

My wife is taking her nurse exam in Halifax this June. We have the prep guide already, is there any other books or websites that may help her to revise.

Also anyone who has been through this have you any advise.

I used the prep guide aswell, and the mock exam- as Nick says, only take the mock exam near your actual exam. You only have access to the exam once, so make sure you have plenty of time, I also copied some of the questions down for future revision.
I passed first time - just got my results on Thursday so I had a good weekend :D

I undertook the exam in Toronto. I found the prep guide excellent. Just go over and over the questions and why that specific answer is right. The cd rom exam test is very helpful. I found this on the web hope it may be of help.

is it true that you can take the exam out of province?
i may work for a while in BC but i want to take the exam in toronto (i put in my PR in 2005 withdrew it, got all money back, had BC registration in progress and have been eligible to sit exam since dec 2005, not for canada in the long-term to live... just for a jolly really!!!) :D

I should have said I took the exam in Toronto to allow me to work in Ontario. You have to sit the exam in the province you want to work in.
You also have to have a WP. or PR. to allow you to work. WP are usually a year commitment working full time for a specific hospital.

a year would be o.k for me and my family as despite seeing adverts to come over i feel that the pay is not fab. a mat of mine is in van 0n 66000 CAD and tell me that is good.
i just like canada but all the seriousness i had about it has gone really.
i did get my AOR and had a 36 month wait which would take me to aug 2008. the desperation has gone a bit now!:cool:

The pay you mentioned is the top of the scale. You have to provide proof of years of service to get the top scale for an RN.
We have been in Ontario now for over three years and are so glad we made the move. Our kids were younger . If we had to do it with older kids it would be much harder but still worth it.
The cost of living and gas prices are much cheaper, all in We have a much better quality of life here and there is so much more for the kids.
We even drove down to Florida for March Break.

really pleased it has worked out for you and i suspect my family (boys 8 and 5) would have a great lifestyle and it would work out well.
i have been qualified as a RGN and RMN since 1992, got my masters and qualified as a social worker and now on a partime PGCE teacher training course for post-16 sector. my prospects are perhaps just as good here, who knows!
naively, i did not think that 66,000CAD was top notch money, although it is not bad.
i think that the kids would have a fab life. not sure if it would benefit me though!:o

Hi Jo,
What part of Canada are you moving to?
If you have worked at the same hospital then check with Human Resources as they should still have your file, Your current Manager should have access to as well.
You need a formal letter on Hospital addressed paper stating the years of service to include full and part time years and signed by the Manager
This is important to provide to get your pay scale entitlement.
Also Some of the hospitals here are offering a four week vacation as a incentive to recruit staff but if you have over 25 years service then you are entitled to five weeks vacation. So try and get your years of service
