Is anyone skeptical about the governments figures from 2023 /2025 1.5 million new immigrants with there being a huge housing shortage in Canada where will these folks live , possibly igloos I’m suspecting this number can’t be achieved unless there is some relaxation on language tests or Proof of Education or funds .

But nearly 500k immigrants last year despite programs being paused during the pandemic, so 1.5 million in 3 years doesn’t seem unrealistic to me.

Housing however, is another matter……..

More people left Toronto in 2021 than arrived. The city actually lost 30,000 people.

So far there have been 267,000 housing starts this year across Canada. There were nearly 300,000 last year.

The average household in Canada is 2.4 people.

Because supply exceeds demand and they are ramping up the former I am not concerned about housing in the longer term.

I'm also not sceptical of the governments immigration number because Canada has too many old people and boomers that need to be paid and provided for because despite having it easy they didn't put enough away.

I am worried about the lack of transit, infrastructure and well paying jobs in addition to the general treatment of those without "Canadian Experience".

Was the high cost of living in Toronto the reason 30,000 left did these people go to live in other provinces .

Personal health, being able to work remotely and high cost of living are some of the most notables reasons as to why people are choosing to move outside of Toronto.

Newly-released numbers from Statistics Canada show that a record number of people moved away from the Greater Toronto Area between July of 2020 and 2021, with 64,121 former residents relocating elsewhere in Ontario over that period of time alone.

According to StatsCan, this represents the "largest net loss to migratory exchanges with other regions" of Ontario since at least 2001/2002.

Of those roughly 64,000 people who left the GTA, some 40,400 of them were in the City of Toronto. Even with immigration factored in, the 416 saw an overall population decline of 16,563, between July 1, 2020 and July 1, 2021.

I don't think there's any way of knowing that. How would we know what skills or jobs a family member being sponsored has for example?

Yes, we were 2 of the people who left Toronto in 2020 to move to Niagara region. Less people, more affordable housing and no commute to worry about. Toronto needs to improve its public transit to support further pollution growth.

I’m also surprised that Calgary international Airport doesn’t have a direct Rail link into the city
