.. the sarcastic quote i got from workmates was "Aww man! ... why Canada? .. do you know they are 10 years behind us!!!"

In some respects i can see that (technology & industry) ... but in other ways, it's that old tongue in cheek DRASTIC exaggeration.

Common ones:

Why?
Oh, do you have family over there?

Or more commonly:

"Oh, my auntie/cousin/great-uncle-twice-removed lives there!"...seems like everyone has a distant relative in Canada!

Then when they find out that I was born in Canada:

"Oh, do you know my auntie/cousin/great-uncle-twice-removed? They live in the middle bit"...

um...no...

We've been asked most of the questions posted on this thread. My fave is "Why Canada? It's really cold and hardly anyone lives there do they?" People have asked us this with a really puzzled look on their face.

Oh Yeah!!!!

I've just remembered another classic, which i received 1st hand from friends back over in the UK.

"You're moving to Canada!!! ... You do know that their TV is different over there????"

... actually, in defence of the above statement, they didn't warn be about the number/duration of commercials on this side of the pond.

I think i've found myself attempt quite an accurate humoured statement in asking my wife "Have you seen that program? .... you know, the one which comes on between the commercials"

You can relate, right?

Union definitely! The only thing missing in Canada would be the pies/pasties but sure I could find a happy substitute. Do they serve beer at rugby there? Might have to reconsider emmigrating if not

You daft ******, leaving a good paying job, pension, good annual leave etc etc blah blah blah !!!!

But again even deeper down I know that most of them were wishing it was them leaving for a new life, and getting out of here

I always say that these people have no vision, they are all scared to leave their little comfort zones that they live in, their little bubble that they call home and work, they are the ones that are scared to try something new !!!!

Paul will mail you over next few days, been mental here

Eddie
When i do get people who are genuinely interested they always mention what we are going to lose - job, on housing ladder, social life, family etc. But i feel and tell them that at the end of the day if we go and decided to come back it has been an ADVENTURE. We will not look back in years to come and think WHY did we never try that and stayed in our 'bubble'.

CARPE DIEM - sieze the day !!
