Number 1 Question
#1
Everybody I've told about moving to Canada always asks the same question.
Nobody ever asks "why" or "when", although most ask "where"...
The question I am always asked first off, without exception is:
"What are you going to do when you get there?"
Was this the same for everybody else, or is it just everybody here knows I'm some kind of waster.
The truth is, I don't know what I'm going to do when I get there! :scared:
So come on - who was in the same boat?
Nobody ever asks "why" or "when", although most ask "where"...

. Mind you she says her friend's children live 'over there' and they have to be careful as their eyeballs freeze in the winter
I kid you not.

I kid you not.Sport? Well they go on about it, but all the 'canadians sports' I like to watch are just excuses for brawls (NHL, WHL, NLL) so are we gonna class it as sport?

"Ooh, isn't that going to be cold?"
"So you speak fluent French, then?"
"I heard it's full of bears...is it safe?"
Yes, I've had a few puzzled looks when I've mentioned Canada! I've heard all the above at least once!

One of the reasons we are going is that, in the UK, quality of life is equated to the amount of cash you have and not all those little things in life that make a real difference ie: politeness, friendliness and willingness to be helpful. In Canada these are part of normal life.
One of the reminders of why we are going arrived at my address in the UK in the form of bank statement from my bank in Canmore. I know this sounds very strange, but when the envelope was handwritten to us with a nice covering note inside, it made it kind of special. Thankfully we will arrive in September and get away from this very aggressive life style of the south east.

When people speak to you it is not what they say - it is what they think and they fit into 2 categories.
One - Oh I would like to do that. All curiosity and genuine interest and goodwill...
The second - what on earth are you doing leaving the best country in the world. The sort that goes to Spain and lives in little England not bothering to learn the language.
Then you compare their response to how good or bad their life is or will be.
Then you ignore the lot of them and get on with what is important to you.

Agree with you on both points
Guys at my work all seem very interested and inquisitive, hope you do well, glad your getting out of this shit hole, BUT deep down I know they are saying
You daft ******, leaving a good paying job, pension, good annual leave etc etc blah blah blah !!!!
But again even deeper down I know that most of them were wishing it was them leaving for a new life, and getting out of here
I always say that these people have no vision, they are all scared to leave their little comfort zones that they live in, their little bubble that they call home and work, they are the ones that are scared to try something new !!!!
Paul will mail you over next few days, been mental here
