The Merb is ok, a big favourite with the locals (probably due to the amenities such as hot food and drinks for sale, changing rooms, toilets and lifeguards).
If you get the chance, though, try Waterside and/or Rushton's. Both situated west of Pictou on the shores north of the sunrise trail.
They do offer fewer amenities. The smell of the shithouses will direct you to pee in the sea. But the waters are warmer there (any man wading out into the merb lives in fear of scrotal issues), so the peeing is less noticeable on one's upper leg areas.
What with the onset of ticks and Lyme disease here, they did a study recently and found them at the Merb. You should be aware of this. http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/...ou-county.html
Info on the other beaches can be found here:-

Well I shall be living in Yarmouth in a couple of weeks as my husband will be working there.
I've heard all the negatives already about the area but really when it comes to it the main thing I have been told is that it's too quiet and there are not many jobs!
The ferry is starting up and there is the cutest of airports there so yes things are quiet but there is potential for change!
Anyway I'm going there with my eyes open and prepared to accept the changes that are bound to happen to my life and I'll let you know what it's like.
I'm really looking forward to it

A mate of mine, who lives in DC, kept up the hours for his license by shuttling people into that airport from Washington and Boston, people who had holiday homes along the coast. The business dried up with recession so now he has to buy his own petrol to keep up the hours. Perhaps he was the airport's major customer.
