Yikes, went and booked our driving test for next week and they don't have any available in New Glasgow til 19th April Our 90 days grace is up soon so we can't wait. Don't want to void our insurance by driving past the 90-days - you never know what might happen. So we have had to opt for our test to be carried out in Truro next week. I am not familiar with the roads there so I hope their line markings aren't as washed out as ours up here.

Hi Folks,

Good Luck to you all that are going through your tests

First was the eye test - looked into a machine and read letters, colour blindness test, etc.

Question re the eye test, I cant find info anywhere on the net regarding the colour test.

I have VERY mild colour vision problems, the standard test in the UK is the Ishihara test (lots of coloured dots making shapes or numbers).
I pass the basic test that GP's use (3 or 4 pictures on a single card) but fail the big book of 20 pages.

Its actually a lot more common than people think, around 1 in 10 men would fail that test !!
You have no problems anywhere in life but you cant pass that bl**dy test !

I cant be that bad as I have passed 3 job medicals, am a time served electrician, been working as a hardware service eng in IT for 20 years etc etc but if they go purely on that test then I'm stuffed !!

So, any of you that are speaking to driving instructors out there - if you could ask for some info for me as to what if ?? then I would be very grateful
(after you have passed your test of course incase they think its you !! )

many thanks

Adrian

Hi

The colour blindness test was to read find 5 numbers in circles.

If you have passed medicals before and are an electrician (lots and lots of coloured wires ) I am sure you would be fine as yours is only mild. I am sure there must be colour-blind people driving all over the world as its very common in men but only 0.5% of women have it.

the same thing happened to me here in Halifax last year, but they said as it was their fault that they couldn't give me a test sooner, my 90 day period would be extended. Maybe you should go back and ask them if the same applies to you in New Glasgow? It's always easier to do something you are comfortable with. When I did finally take my test that was also very short, about 10 mins. and to be honest I felt really cheated!!! All those weeks working myself up for nothing. Don't worry, you will be fine.

Good luck to everyone out there who is taking their test. I took my road test today and was actually quite nervous. It did go really quick and he was a nice guy. Seemed very straight forward and hey I remembered to stay on the right!!!! Sorry couldn't remember who said it but yeah it is a lot easier than taking your test in the UK. I pased by the way.

Best wishes Karen
