Nice Living Areas in Toronto?
Hi,
Can anyone recommend some nice, safe areas in Toronto? My Canadian born husband and I will be moving there later in the year, and we'd like to look at some apartments for rent. I've heard Danforth and Riverdale are nice areas? What's the average price to rent a 2 bedroom apartment (utilities included) ? I've tried to search for apartments in those two areas, without any results. We would prefer to live close to the city, as we'd most likely find jobs in those areas.
Also, how easy is it finding a computer technician/systems administrator job in the city? My husband was born in Toronto to Greek parents, but left when he was very young, so he won't have that 'Canadian Experience' everyone deems so important. He speaks English fluently (with a subtle Canadian accent) Is the 'Canadian Experience' thing just an excuse for people who don't want to hire non-fluent English speakers?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Two bedroom (half a house) should be $1400-$2000 there or on along the Danforth.

I have a friend who lives in a very nice, well maintained apartment building just off the Danforth, less than five minute walk to subway station. The building has full time security guards, a swimming pool, exercise room, games room, sauna and underground parking. A two bedroom unit, includes 2 full bathrooms, a balcony and in-suite laundry facilities. When available, goes for $1400/1500 p/m.

Toronto is still a relatively safe place to live. Have a look at these links to check out the neighbourhoods.

I live in a 2 bed condo in downtown Toronto and we pay $1925 but we got them to take off the parking I think it was actually offered at $2100. That's all bills included.
Try www.viewit.ca...it'll give you a good idea of prices and the types of property available

Novocastrian will probably be along shortly to suggest Richmond Hill.

I just went past a well located building with vacancies, north side of Queen just west of Woodbine. North of where the racetrack was and that horrible housing project is now. Fabulous looking resident on the porch. That's where in Toronto I'd move.
Leslieville. Hmm. Not dangerous but those houses are always going to be a bit squalid and there's the bread factory and all those car breakers yards and the streetcar yard. Not fabulous.
Forest Hill is ok if you're a) Jewish b) competitive c) rich.
Yonge and Eg, well the appeal's obvious, even I've been laid there, but it's a bit soulless, all chain bars and Starbucks. A place that's urban if you're from Mississauga.

Don't discount downtown as well as a place to live. If you have a car not so good perhaps, but if you're planning on relying on transit like many do, then it's fabulous. (Ben, who lives downtown with a fabulous view over the lake.)

Now there is an interesting image of Young and Eligible. There is a good pub at the SE corner of Mount Pleasant/Eglinton (Granite) that has good hand pumped cask conditioned ales. The rest of the pubs are glorified places to facilitate the initiation of the exchange of body fluids later in the evening.
