It does go to prove that people, myself included, will pay good money to be told the bleedin' obvious. Although I did rather enjoy discovering that the building opposite Canada's Parliament is a toilet paper factory.

hey....smiling they say, increases your life span??? The OP has got us thinking about this area, and we are considering looking into it, to see if there are houses we can afford in these areas.

Dear all
Perhaps my question was not very clear. I am interested in finding out about pros and cons about settling in this area, say stuff like
1.- housing prices,
2.-schools,
3.- opportunities for jobs (and what types of jobs)
4.- how good to bring up young family
I agree landscape is rather flat, however, quite a bit of England isnt particurlarly hilly so it could be said it is similar to some of the English landscape. What is wrong with being close to Buffalo? The people I met were happy to have Buffalo nearby for some of their shopping...From what I saw it seemed to be a nice smaller place, but hey, I was only there as a tourist, and that's why I threw the question at those who know more about the area. Thanks again

Maybe if people drove through it, rather than past it, they'd see what a lovely place Hamilton is. One ropey downtown area does not a city make.

We are in North Essex -NOT Braintree but quite close and are looking at St Catherines. Do you know much about that place. We havent been yet but are hoping to this year.
We are due to get our medical requests before end of March this year.
Do you have kids?
PM me if you like. Thanks

Bsidebaby,
I guess you have read the reply from CWEMM (Michael) on the other thread, I have and he has been pretty honest about the area, schools, etc. If you have contacted him directly then I think he will help you answer any questions where possible.
We are certainly looking at Niagara Region, have considered others but keep coming back to it. House prices seem reasonable and varied depending on things like :
1- Older or Newer house
2- Specific area of course
3- Does it have land with it or is it squeezed by neighbours the same as in UK
4- Is it one to be done or upgraded in any way
If you haven't already try looking at www.mls.ca

Take a look at
http://www.mls-niagara.com
There are some useful links under the Resource Centre.
Stoney Creek, Winona and Grimsby are well worth a look. The downside is a lack of public transport. However, house prices are reasonable, and there is less of the urban sprawl found in the GTA.

from what i understand houses are very cheap and it's just a really lovely peaceful place to live. the down side is all that weather coming in off the two lakes the winters can get pretty ruff.
