Default Niagara area, pros and cons

Hello to all

Last summer we visited the Niagara area and fell in love with it. I wondered if any of you who already live there/plan to move there would like to share their experiences as to the pros and cons of living in this lovely part of the world (say between Hamilton and Fort Erie). Thanks a bunch and I hope this thread enlightens more than one!

Pros:

The Falls are nice to look at
Good place if you like wine and aren't too fussy
It's easy to get to other places

Cons:

The Falls, a casino and that's about it
Canadian wine really isn't very good
It snows like bugg**y
It isn't all that pretty
It's close to Hamilton

Pros-
-Summers are very hot if you like that sort of thing.
-The falls themselves are very nice
-Blackpool type attractions in NF are quite fun
-Niagara on the Lake is beautiful

Cons-
-The countryside isn't really very nice, it's predominantly flat and looks quite bleak in winter.
-Often smoggy in summer
-Lots of tourists
-Too close to Buffalo!

Very odd. I actually LIKE Hamilton!! It wouldn't win a beauty contest but
the people are generally salt-of-the-earth working class folk and far less snobby than in most of Ontario.

We are planning on moving to St Catherines. Niagara area was my first choice, then looked around all Ontario and are back at Niagara......Looks like a lovely area. Does anyone know any different?

My point is that the OP referred to "lovely part of the world". Hamilton is hardly pretty. I'm sure the people are nice but the city doesn't have the monopoly on that. The only Hamiltonian I knew well had a mullet.

Absolutely, and it is not the dump that some people on this site so quickly jump to point out.

We have drove thru there to go to Niagara falls, it looks beautiful from what we can gather, but then we only stopped there for a little bit. There seems to be a lot of stores ( major ones ), wineries. Stoney creek is close by, which is another beautiful place.

Just follow your gut feeling, as long as you and your family are happy.

When I was living in Toronto, I freqently visited St. Catherines. I was particularly impressed by Fonthill and Pelham. These are areas part of St. Kitts.

I think Hamilton is pretty, compared with Toronto anyway. Webster's Falls is really nice. It's true that Hamilton has the steelworks but then Toronto has the AGO and that ghastly ROM pyramid thing. At least the steelworks are functional.

Functional but bankrupt. What's the AGO?

just goes to prove the sayings "beauty is only skin deep", "there is more to it than meets the eye", "don't judge a boot by it's cover" ( in this case, a building)
