There's only really two national ones, National Post (www.nationalpost.com) which loosely resembles The Telegraph in both style and content (but infinitely more readable) and The Globe And Mail (www.theglobeandmail.com) which comes across as a slightly funkier love-child of the Grauniad and the Times.

What you will find and indeed find joyous, is the lack of rigid adherence to a particular political viewpoint as you'd find in the 'quality' British papers. A 'rebuttal' (for want of a better name) of an earlier article is par for the course.

I can't really speak about local papers. There isn't that much difference between most of the local papers as they all seem to be run by the same organisation and run most of the same stories (in aparticular area). However, in BC, the Vancouver Sun runs Peanuts whereas the Province doesn't so I made my decision there and then.

As for the telly, it never fails to amuse me that Canada has half of the population of the UK yet manages to spin it's nightly news bulletin to twice the length!! As the author Will Ferguson once said, if aliens landed on the Rideau Canal, the National's headline would be "Aliens - a federal or provincial matter?" .... only they'd use a worse pun that I can't think of right now.

Thursday nights are good though because they have the 'At Issue' panel (http://www.cbc.ca/national/blog/vide...sue/index.html) which discusses Canadian politics and also Rex Murphy (http://www.cbc.ca/national/blog/video/rex_murphy/) who would be a shoe-in for GG in the best of all possible worlds.

For online news websites, appreciate the website News Now. It's from the UK, but it's also got a whack load of other country news stories. I know I am not answering your question regarding Canadian news, but I prefer to read to have a smattering of news so I read the Calgary Herald locally because it arrives daily (not because I buy it, but it's free for me to read) and online the BBC, CBC, as well as others. I don't think that any of the Canadian newspapers are very good to be honest with you, but that is just my opinion.

I remember when my brother got married (Warwick area 1995) and they had Old Speckled Hen on draught at the wedding....the next week I bought it in the bottled form in Canada...what a let down.....

BTW...Souvenir...for cheap 'suds' have you been to le roi de la biere in Aylmer (near the marina). That dep (more just a beer store now) is reputed to be the cheapest in the area and often beats Costco for prices (and better selection).
