I was wondering the same thing. Where I live almost every other person you meet seems to be from Newfoundland and they all say they would love to go back but there's no work there.

Cape Spear (the easterly most point of Canada)
Ferryland lighthouse (and have a picnic - it's amazing)
Drive the Irish loop
Signal Hill and that includes a mega walk if you want, and the Geo centre
There is 'The Rooms'
There are many boat tours
erm.....
If you PM me your address, I'll get a Newfoundland Tourist guide and map out to you (I work for the company that distributes all that stuff).

oh......and you MUST got to 'The Amazing World Of Princess Auto'!

The Rooms is really good - it's the provincial museum and has some pretty good exhibits. The restaurant there is really nice as well - the food is very good and the view over St John's is amazing.
The Irish Loop is very pretty, but is quite a long drive. If you decide to go down to Ferryland you probably will see the nicest bits of it, don't know if it is worth the few hours more drive to go round.
Brigus is a good hours drive from St John's and is a very pretty village/town. The drive is nice as well if you go via Conception Bay South, Holyrood, Avondale. If you like icecream - Bergs in Conception Bay South is definitely worth stopping at!
Downtown St John's is really nice. Two streets of shops/restaurants etc. Some really nice touristy shops (and some really tacky ones!). Tval do amazing soaps/lotions etc, all made on the premises. Auntie Crae's is a coffee shop/deli on Water Street which has live music on a Tuesday lunchtime. Cora's on Atlantic Place is the place with the best view for breakfast - right over the harbour. The Bagel Cafe on Duckworth Street is also really nice for breakfast. Water Street and Duckworth Street are the two main streets downtown and run parallel to each other so everything is easy to find!
George Street is the famous street with all the bars - worth a visit, and you will definitely get live music somewhere on there. The Ship Inn is also good for live music.
Middle Cove Beach is out to the north of St John's and is very pretty for a walk. Find a stone with a continuous white line for luck. If you continued on Marine Drive from there until Torbay, then took Indian Meal Line over to Portugal Cove, there are a few really nice places to eat - Ferry Last Stop (small menu, changing all the time, very nice), Beachy Cove Cafe (newfie food) and then in St Phillips, By Da Beach where you get the best fish and chips in town and a really nice view over to Bell Island.
Hope that helps and gives you some ideas. Just shout if you want to know about anything in particular.

Hi all, I am just interested to hear if there are any folks on here, still in the UK, planning to come and relocate to Newfoundland.
Not looking for any saucy replies please, but it seems everyone wants to move everywhere but.
Newfoundland, is still Canada's best kept secret.
Just interested that's all.
Cheers
Chris.

Hating living in Halifax as much as I do, I didn't have high hopes of enjoying our trip to St John's. OMG - we've only been here a few hours but what a fantastic place. Almost didn't make it as flight was apparently close to being returned to Halifax due to fog, but thank goodness we did. Just got back from having supper at a great place in Water Street, had cod's tongues and scrunchings followed by partridge berry pud - the shops, the restaurants, the bars, all look great and I'm amazed at how much choice there is. Can't wait to see more of the place tomorrow.

By any chance were you at Velma's for supper? We had an almost identical meal there last week and it was superb.
My inlaws are here from Wiltshire and we have been everywhere on Pink's list during this last week or so. My inlaws loved The Rooms cafe and we made a return visit to By Da Beach for the best fish and chips in Canada, let alone NL.
If you just need a quick coffee then Coffee Matters just opposite The Fairmont is nice too. And ice cream at Moo Moos on Rawlins Cross is very tempting.
Have a great stay.
