Hiya everyone,
Only just found this site and ive already gained alot of valuable information from it that i didn't know before!!!!
Anyway, Im currently serving in the British military and have 10 years driving experience (military vehicles only though). Me and my Fiancee "who is canadian" are planning on moving to either the Edmonton area or maybe Saskatoon or Regina at the start of next year. My question is that i dont fancy long haul driving although i wouldn't mind local/regional work but what other types of work would suit an ex military man in this area of Canada?
Would i have to go through a driving school and start from the beggining to gain all the relevant licences to enable me to drive cat C or C+E (class 1 or 2) vehicles?
Also ive had tree surgery as a career in my head for a while but never been able to find out much information on it in Canada? Has anyone got any views or information on this as a career?
Thanks in advance for any replys,
Stew.

Hi Stew, spent 14mths in Saskatoon long haul driving - PNP Programme. My background is Royal Corps of Transport (originally from Fife).
In Saskatchewan your car licence is reciprocal but you will have to sit Canadian Class 1 equivalency with air brake endorsement test. If you have a job offer then the employer should assist with funding. Have a look at the SGI website that should give you some info regarding the driving test in Saskatchewan. Hope this info helps and welcome to BE, Cheers Vince.

Hi Vince, would it be worth me sending my cv of to companys advertising for driver positions bearing in mind the lack of experience i have driving civilain trucks? With the possibility of them putting me through all my relevant training to gain my licences? And would you recommend the PNP programme for someone that would rather do local/regional driving work? I was looking at using my resettlement grant to attent a driver training course which covers all licences either in Edmonton or Saskatoon/Regina? Is this a good idea or should i get in touch with companys first?
Sorry for all the questions,
Thanks in advance. Stew.

Hi Stew, my OH and I are about to go to Regina in Sept. He is going to work for Yanke (which is long haul) on a two year contract. The first 6 months are on a temporary work permit and will apply for SINP after that.
There are loads of lorry drivers on this site that will give you information and loads of other posters with a lot more experience of going through the immigration waiting system so just keep asking questions.
Good luck in reaching your goal

Hi and welcome to the forum. Me and my OH are moving to Indian Head, Sask later this year on LMO/WP route. OH is a mechanic so I cant answer any trucking questions. If you do a search for Karla03 she is very knowledgable in the trucking field of work in Sask.
BTW to any other regulars...where is Karla??
