New Brunswick what's it like?

Re: New Brunswick what's it like?
Well in my humble unbiased limited opinion NB is a great place to live, bring up a family and Fredericton is a beautiful city (best in NB )
We walk out of our house across the road and have 25-30km of cross country skiing, snowshoeing etc... free outdoor ice rink in Island View, plus officers square in Fredericton (floodlit for night time skaters). 20 minute drive to Mactaquac Park where we have more hiking, cross country skiing, sledding hills, sleigh rides and skating ponds great place for the winter lots to do (provided you get out and do it).
Ditto for summer too.
Plus we have the Fredericton Newcomers club monthly socialising events including a regular last saturday of the month pub night . A group to help you settle in and offer advice on everything and anything (we are not responsible if you follow it )
PS: check NBjobs.ca for work opportunities

Re: New Brunswick what's it like?
ooooh about 120km (65 miles ish) one way and about 250km the other way. Damn sight close than anyone in Alberta is to the Ocean
I used to live in Nottingham and the drive to the North sea was about 2.5 hours (which is more than the drive today)

In Canada a have-not Province is defined as one that receives equalization payments from the Federal Government, so New Brunswickers and other Provinces can have a standard of living equal to that enjoyed by the rest of the country.
tsk tsk and a Merry Christmas to you. It is not something any of us should be concerned about, particularly at this time of year.

One of Canada's have-not Provinces but has some very attractive areas, towns and cities. As far as hardwood is concerned do you mean harvested/finished hardwood products or the amount of hardwood forests in the Province? Try:-

Wasn't actually asking or expecting you to give me distances Dave, it was sort of a rhetorical question.

That said I am planning a day out at Parlee Beach next May or June so we can paddle without getting frostbite
(No hidden meaning in the this question) How long does it take you to get to the Ocean?

Rheotorical questions still cannot convince me that Freddie Beach isn't the best city in NB

[QUOTE=pennyhp;7092871].....
We are considering a move to Ontario, simply because our sons both live in Toronto and we would love to be closer to them.
But looking at Ontario's problems, New Brunswick seems much better placed.
Add to that the already stated beauty. .... QUOTE]
I see the reasoning behind following your sons to be close to them but what if they move further west?
We never stayed close to our parents/families so why should we expect our kids to?

Re: New Brunswick what's it like?
The ocean is a big draw and access to trails and parks etc is good too here. After I am financially freed up in April next year we are going to take stock. It may be that we stay put for a few years, it may not. I'm not a fan of Moncton per se, but I like Riverview and its surrounding areas. I also like the surrounding areas of Fred ( I think they are very similar ) and the draw would be family there.
Anyway, have a great Christmas Dave.

Don't get me wrong, if it was Fred I was heading for, I would have no objection. I like Fred. I have family there ( Canadian ) and they have positives and negatives to say about it having lived there for a long time.

If there is anything I can do when you are looking to re-evalutate your position please don't hesitate to ask.
Merry Christmas to you and everyone who is reading this!

I hear what you are saying Dave I really do, but as we choose to keep animals we are really hampered for getting time away.
Yes I know our kids may move on.
But Ontario is going to be nearer to wherever else they may choose to live in Canada for sure.
Don't ask me to be rational cos I can't
