Teaching jobs are as rare as hen's teeth in this country, and secondly you will be at a distinct disadvantage without any Canadian qualifications.

After the usual route of subbing / LTO / part time permanent, she finally got a full time job.
She retired (a bit early) in June and is now floating about on the Danube with her Dad (who's 85).
There's always a silver lining.

Canadian Universities continue to perpetuate a fraud by encouraging hundreds of shiny faced high school kids to do teaching degrees, only to find that there are too many teachers chasing too fewer jobs. In the face of such local competition what hope does the immigrant have?

My other half was also a head of geography in the UK and found a geography teacher job at a private school in BC. He was offered this from the UK. There are very few geography teacher jobs advertised however - most state schools teach Social Studies rather than pure geography, so you'd probably be expected to teach history too, and possibly other subjects. (And I don't think we ever saw a full-time Social Studies job advertised at a state school anyway - as others have said, you'd have to do supply teaching first.)
But some private schools seem to like to teach the subjects separately, so if you do see a geography position advertised (you may have to wait a while though), you could be at an advantage, as there aren't many geography specialist teachers in Canada. Have a look at the CAIS website (Canadian Accredited Independent Schools), which advertises jobs in private schools. February/March is probably the best time to look, but don't expect to see anything like the number of jobs you'd see on TES. You have to be patient and pretty determined!

Thank you all for the advice, I will do some more research definitely. We are planning a holiday next summer to get a feel for things, and will go from there.
